Personal stuff :)

Just a little rant about me.

I am a frugal person.  I am downright cheap.  These days I hear people talking about the economy and how hard it is to make ends meet.  I see dogs listed on craigslist because people can not afford them anymore.  People call me to see if I take in dogs to find homes for them.  I recently had a dog show up on my front lawn and was berrated for calling the pound to pick it up.

So here’s the deal.  I run a business.  I started the business by myself and have been running it for the last 2.5 years by myself.  Recently Dave moved in and has been helping out.  I did not get where I am by spending money and making decisions that could harm the business.  I don’t spend when I don’t need to.  On a side note, I had to send the dog that showed up to the pound because I could not put my entire kennel full of dogs at risk by taking in an unknown dog.  As it turns out a rescue has taken the dog in after hearing its story.  But as a business I need to look out for my clients dogs first and foremost.

So back to me being cheap.  Here are a few things that make people take a second to digest about me.

I think it’s fine to have Ramen noodles 2 or 3 times a week, they are yummy, especially if you add egg and cheese.

I keep my heat set at 55 degrees in the winter.  I mean come on come spring time you will be wearing t-shirts and saying how nice it is when it’s 55 out.

I only allow myself to buy 1 new pair of jeans a year.  I have enough pairs already and I don’t wear them out that fast.

I don’t pay for TV.  It’s just not that important.  Using an antenna I get the major channels and can watch the news and cops 🙂

I buy mostly all generic food.  It tastes the same.

I actually hate shopping, this helps a lot.

I hate water, but I will drink it out of the tap if that’s what I have.  I do not buy bottled water.

I rarely use the window air conditioner in the summer, only if the dogs are hot.

If I have a little extra money I splurge and buy groceries.

To me most people think they “need” much more than is really necessary.

These are just the things I can think of off the top of my head right now.  There are more I can assure you.  Keeping all of this in mind I am a happy content person.  I don’t need a lot to keep me happy.  I am very proud of myself for starting and keeping going a business in a rough economy.  And in a part of the country that is doing worse than most.  Yes I may be bragging a little bit.  But what the heck, like I said I am proud.  I am doing it.  I will keep on doing it.  And maybe I don’t have as much stuff as others do, but for me spending time at work really is enough for me.

I have told few people in my life that I am a very intrinsic person. What I do for me and my business makes me feel good inside.

I think most people go through a time period where they live off ramen noodles. It builds character and shows you that you’re stronger than you think. It also helps if you have a lot of willpower.
